Staff Vacancies
Staff vacancies are posted online at: https://www.vcujobs.com/
Current staff vacancies include:
Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Statistical Genetics/Genetic Epidemiology
A postdoctoral fellow position (2-3 year, extension possible) on pedigree analysis and genome-wide association studies will be available in Department of Biostatistics at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU, a top 100 research university). The starting date should be as early as January 4, 2010.
Research will focus on haplotyping, quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping, identifying gene-gene and gene-environment interactions for complex traits with large pedigrees. Other possible research topics include association studies using genome-wide SNPs and gene expression data, population stratification and multiple hypothesis testing. There will be ample opportunity both for individual (methodology, simulation) and collaborative research (with human geneticists at VCU).
Candidates should have strong programming skills in C, C++ or a similar language, have substantial statistical (or mathematical) expertise, and will hold a PhD in (bio)statistics, genetics, computer science, computational biology, molecular biology or other related areas. Previous experience in quantitative genetics, especially in pedigree or family data analysis is desirable but not essential. The postdoctoral fellow will work with Drs. Guimin Gao and Shumei Sun. Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae and statement of research interests by email to Dr. Shumei Sun at ssun@vcu.edu.
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Statistical Genomics/Bioinformatics
A postdoctoral fellow position in Statistical Genomics/Bioinformatics is available in Department of Biostatistics at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU, a top 100 research university). The starting date can be as early as January 4, 2010.
The position will focus on genome-wide association studies (GWAS) using genome-wide SNPs and gene expression data, admixture mapping, sequencing data analysis and multiple hypothesis testing. Other possible research topics include copy number variation analysis and statistical and computational epigenetics. There will be ample opportunity for both methodological and applied collaborative research (with human geneticists at VCU).
Candidates should have strong programming skills in C, C++, R, or a similar language, have substantial statistical (or mathematical) expertise, and will hold a PhD in (bio)statistics, genetics, computer science, engineering, computational biology, molecular biology or other related areas. Previous experience in quantitative genetics, especially in GWAS, gene expression analysis, or linkage analysis is desirable but not essential.
The postdoctoral fellow will work with Drs. Guimin Gao and Shumei Sun. Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae and statement of research interests by email to Dr. Shumei Sun at ssun@vcu.edu.
Virginia Commonwealth University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Women, minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
